Community Based Tourism Initiative (CBTI-Uganda) is a locally founded non-profit organization dedicated to improving lives and protecting nature in the Greater Virunga Region. We work closely with vulnerable children, marginalized families, and local communities around Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.
Our mission is simple but powerful: to support vulnerable children and empower communities living around Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (Uganda) and Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda), while protecting the rich biodiversity of our shared environment.
Through our programs in Livelihood Change, Conservation Support, and Enterprise Development, we bring hope, opportunity, and sustainability to families who depend on these fragile ecosystems.
Beneficiary
Through CBT Uganda, my daughter has been able to stay in school. They supported us with scholastic materials and part of her school fees. I now have hope that she will finish her education and become a nurse as she dreams.
Farmer, Virunga
"I received training in modern farming methods and seedlings from CBT Uganda. Today, my garden produces more food, and I can even sell some at the market. The clean water project also means my family no longer walks long distances to fetch water."
Reformed Poacher
"I used to hunt in the forest to survive, but CBT Uganda gave me training and two goats to start a small project. I am now earning a living without harming wildlife. I’m proud to be part of conservation instead of destruction."
